My Story - Part One
My Story - Part Two
W/ro Menkeli was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 1972, she traveled to the United States to pursue her college education, fully intending to return home after graduation. However, the outbreak of the Ethiopian Revolution in 1974 dramatically altered her plans. Like many in her generation—students, scholars, and young professionals—she suddenly found herself unable to return to Ethiopia and was compelled to build a new life in a new land.
Over the years, Menkeli established deep roots in the United States. She married an African-American man, raised two children, and pursued a career in teaching, where she inspired countless students. At the same time, she dedicated herself to supporting newly arrived Ethiopian refugees, helping them navigate the challenges of adjusting to life in America.
Now retired from teaching, Menkeli embraces her role as a proud grandmother of four while pursuing her passion as the founder of a natural skincare line, which continues to grow steadily. Her journey reflects resilience, service, and a commitment to both her Ethiopian heritage and her adopted home.
